About the BEAQ

BEAQ is the professional members' association for business educators in Queensland.

Through our mission statement 'empowering our members and other key stakeholders to evolve business education in Queensland' we aim to provide best practice services that are relevant to the needs of members.

To achieve this BEAQ:

  • has developed a video that can be used by member schools to promote the study of business education
  • is developing resources to assist teachers with the implementation of syllabus content
  • hosts State-based, regional and school-based competitions and events through the use of the Rural PD Grants
  • aims to grow membership by focusing on products, events and engagement with members.

The Strategic Plan [2024-2026] offers a positive direction in the development of services and support for Business Education teachers as we embark upon a new phase in education in Queensland.

It is a clear roadmap to deliver strong and sustainable services, focusing on supporting our members, connecting with current and future members, delivering excellence, developing a respectful culture and improving our financial sustainability to ensure continued quality services to members.

BEAQ is proud to be an affiliate of Business Educators Australasia (BEA), the peak organisation for 11 subject associations that support the teaching of economics and business education in Australasia. BEA, in conjunction with its affiliated associations, aims to promote and extend economics and business education.

We also hold a $20m Public Liability Insurance policy.

How We Began

BEAQ started in 1964 as the Commercial Teachers Society of Queensland, then changed in the late 70s to the Commercial Teachers Association of Queensland before becoming Business Educators' Association of Queensland Inc on 10 April 1987. Some of the initial Executive meetings were held at Sandgate State High School. We have two Life Members: Arthur Dean was made a Life Member in the early 80s, and it wasn't until 2013 that we awarded our second Life member, Trevor Stanley. The dedicated secondary and tertiary teachers who volunteered to join the executive management committee of BEAQ since 1964 have contributed enormously to the promotion and development of business education in the Queensland curriculum. If you are feeling nostalgic download a list of BEAQ Executive Main Office Bearers 1964-2016 and see if you know some of the people who have helped to make BEAQ the premier business educators' association in Queensland!
